Get Stoked

My friend Jon used to run a record company called Get Stocked Records in Portland. And thanks to him I and my pal, Madison got to see and meet more bands from Bay Area during 2005-ish to 2010. I still miss going to shows like every weekend at local venues in Bay Area with my friends. And just like a lot of people out there I can’t live without music. We even managed to organize some good shows at the Egg, the little place we turned into a lounge/rock n’ roll venue for a while. That changed my life and that was when I noticed the music scene in Bay Area was tight and have that sense of community between bands and also between kids, which is a very nice thing to have in this digital age we live in. Looking at kids’ smile at the end of the day after a solid show, I thought to myself it was something I’d want to do for the rest of my life.

Things got shifted and moved around and I’m still working towards that dream, but I hadn’t been to shows for more than two years since I moved back here in Japan. Simply because there weren’t shows I was interested in going, and I was living in my hometown located in the area that’s way too inconvenient to attend shows in big cities like Tokyo or Nagoya. Then, I made some change last year and moved to a city that’s a bit closer to Tokyo. When I received the news that Loma Prieta and Touché Amoré were coming to Japan in January, I was jumping up and down like a little kid with excitement.

So I left work early today and went over to see them in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Let me tell you it was the most exciting and energetic thing I have seen in a very long time. Words cannot describe it enough, but it was definitely worth ditching a meeting. I hope they have a great time filled with fun memories for the rest of the tour.
